Map Info

This map shows federal farm subsidy payments to individual counties across the U.S., over 2014 and 2015. The payments are for the Crop Insurance, Agricultural Risk Coverage and Price Loss Coverage programs, along with a “total crop payments” measure that shows the total payments from all three programs.

The heavily subsidized crop insurance program pays farmers indemnities when bad weather hurts crop yields or economic conditions reduce prices. These are the same conditions that cause ARC and PLC to pay out. Farmers consequently receive duplicate payments for one loss through these three programs.
